EPISODE OVERVIEW
Episode Title: "Pivot"
Episode Overview:
Episode 1 serves as the introduction to the world of Dispatch and the character of Robert Robertson, the third-generation Mecha Man. The episode opens with Robert recovering from a traumatic event: his father's death at the hands of the villain Shroud, and the destruction of his mech suit. He reflects on his complicated relationship with his father while interrogating a captured goon who was in league with Shroud. After learning the location of Shroud's hideout (the Llewelyn Steel Works), Robert confronts Toxic, a henchman using Shroud's technology. Following the fight, Robert holds a press conference announcing his retirement as a hero, gives an interview to reporters (including the aggressive Charles Kingsley), and gets into a brawl with a group of colorful thieves. Later, he meets Blonde Blazer at a bar and, after some flirtation, she offers him a job at the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN). The episode ends with Robert beginning his dispatch tutorial for the Z-Team.

===== SCENE 1: INTERIOR – ROBERT'S APARTMENT – NIGHT =====
[Robert is seated on the floor of his apartment. He has a bloody nose. BEEF, his dog, sits nearby.]
Robert: Obviously, I love him. He's my Dad.
Soothing Voice: Hmm...
Robert: What does that hmm mean? Just say what you wanna say?
Soothing Voice: It's just, when you add obviously it feels a little less obvious. So, I'll ask again... how do you really feel about your father?
Soothing Voice: It's as if, maybe, it's a little more complicated than you feel comfortable admitting. Which is completely understandable.
---
===== SCENE 1A: ROBERT'S RESPONSE TO THE INTERROGATION (CHOICE) =====
The player must choose how Robert answers his interrogator.
> Option 1 - "I love my dad."
> Robert: Look, I love my dad, alright? I love my dad. That's the truth.
> Soothing Voice: Loved.
> Robert: That's what I said.
> Soothing Voice: You said love. Your dad's dead, so you don't love him, you loved him.
> Option 2 - "He's gone."
> Robert: Look... he's gone.
> Soothing Voice: That's a bit of an understatement...
> Robert: How so?
> Soothing Voice: Well, he's more than gone, cause he's fuckin' dead. That's the most gone you can be.
> Option 3 - "Didn't know him well."
> Robert: Didn't really know him well... he wasn't around much.
> Soothing Voice: Well, you're gonna see him even less now, cause he's dead.
Robert: Just so, sensitive. Listen, if I didn't love him, we wouldn't be here, right?
Soothing Voice: We don't have to get into it.
Robert: Nope. We're in it now. Why would I be trying to find the man who killed him if I didn't love him? Why would I be doing any of this--
Robert: Shit. My nose is bleeding. Thought I was getting emotionally snotty.
Soothing Voice: No, it's probably from when I kicked you in the face.
Robert: Yeah. Thanks for reminding me. So, here's what's gonna happen. I'm going to hang you off the side of this building, and you're gonna tell me where Shroud is, or I'm going to drop you to your death.
Soothing Goon: Come on, I thought we were having a breakthrough.
Robert: Hey, we did. Ya know, for being a real piece of shit, you're pretty easy to talk to. But the only breakthrough I need right now, is the location of Shroud.
Soothing Goon: I'm not telling you shit you fuckin' loser.
Robert: See. This is more like, how I thought this would go...
Soothing Goon: I hope Shroud kills you just like he killed your father. I hope he fuckin' spanks your little daddy issue bitch ass to death. You hear me? Ugh!
Soothing Goon: Are we outside? Why're we outside? It smells like outside smells!
Robert: Windy up here tonight huh? No telling where you'll land.
Soothing Goon: Fuckfuckfuck-- wait! Wait! Wait! Wait!
Robert: Hey! Hey! I have neighbors. Use your inside voice and just tell me where Shroud is?
Soothing Goon: Okay, okay, uh, uh-- Steel--Steel Mill. Llewelyn uh, Llewelyn Steel Works okay? Fuck.
Robert: You're sure about that?
Soothing Goon: Yes! Please, that's all I know!
Robert: Stop screaming, goddamnit!
Soothing Goon: HELP! HEEEEL-mmmphh
Robert: Hey, hey I will pull you up if you quiet the fuck down.
Soothing Goon: MMMMMMMHHHHMPPHHH! MMMMRRRRAAA-HEEEEL-mmmphh. MMMMMMMHHHHMPPHHH!

> Soothing Goon: Whoaooaoaononono--
> Soothing Goon: Eeeeeaaaaaagh--
> Soothing Goon: You piece of shit!
> Robert: Hey. I ruined a perfectly good mattress to make sure you didn't die, okay? You're welcome.
> Option 2 - "[Pull Him Back]"
> Robert: Honestly, it was nice talking to someone about this stuff. I guess what I'm saying is... I'm really glad I kidnapped you tonight.

===== SCENE 3A: CONFRONTING THE MECHA MAN FAN =====
[During the fight, Robert encounters a Soothing Goon who is also a Mecha Man fan.]
Mecha Man (Robert): Hey, um, Can I get a copy of that video when we're through here?
Soothing Goon: Oh no. It's over, Shroud!
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "It's over, Shroud."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Cause it's over, Shroud... and it'd be nice to watch that back at a different angle.
> Option 2 - "I'm here to fuck you up."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Cause I'm about to fuck you up and those videos do numbers. Maybe we can go viral --
> Option 3 - "Prepare to die."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Cause there are some people out there who're gonna want proof that you're dead.
Soothing Goon: All this buildup. Face to face with your father's killer and you come in here with that lame shit?
Mecha Man (Robert): Ugh. Where the fuck is Shroud?
Soothing Goon: He'll be here in a bit. Oh, hey, after our conversation, I asked him about your dad. Fun little tidbit, he was very well hydrated. It turns out right after Shroud shot him in the chest, your dad pissed his pants. Betcha didn't know that, huh?
Soothing Goon: So, after that bullet tore through his insides, he still had enough time to know how absolutely fucked he was, and just pissed himself like a little bitch. It was like, so much piss. Cause your dad was wearing shorts so it just--
Mecha Man (Robert): Hey.
---
===== SCENE 3B: DEALING WITH THE GOON (CHOICE) =====
The player must choose how to retaliate against the goon.
> Option 1 - "[Punt]"
> Mecha Man (Robert): I get it.
> Option 2 - "[Stomp]"
> Mecha Man (Robert): I get it.
Mecha Man (Robert): Starting to think I didn't need to waste a perfectly good mattress to break your fall.
Soothing Goon: Perfectly good? I assumed that cum-stained thing was already in the dumpster--
Mecha Man (Robert): Can we just skip to the part where you reveal your bullshit superpower so we can fight for real?
---
===== SCENE 3C: TOXIC INTRODUCES HIMSELF =====
[The goon, now named TOXIC, powers up with glowing green augmentations.]
Mecha Man (Robert): Cool dick. So, you, uh, got some kinda clever supervillain name?
Toxic: You can call me Toxic.
Mecha Man (Robert): Bro, that works on so many levels for you.
Toxic: Yeah, no shit, that's the point.
Toxic: Shroud's augments are pretty good when normies like you use 'em, but when you put 'em on someone who already has powers... fuckin' chef's kiss.
---
===== SCENE 3D: THE FIGHT WITH TOXIC =====
[The fight with Toxic begins. This is an interactive boss fight sequence where the player must press the correct buttons in quick-time events.]
[SUCCESS.]
Toxic: Fuck!
Toxic: Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!
[SUCCESS. The fight continues.]
Mecha Man (Robert): Ugh, figures.
Toxic: Piece of shit!
[SUCCESS. The fight continues.]
Toxic: Piece of shit.
Mecha Man (Robert): Come on, come on!
[An interactive sequence where Robert is pinned down and must build a "BUCKET SUCCESS" bar to escape.]
[BUCKET SUCCESS.]

===== SCENE 3E: THE ASTRAL PULSE =====
[Toxic, now pinned under rubble, communicates with Shroud via earpiece as his cronies surround Robert.]
Blob Goon: Hurry!
Toxic: Now!
Toxic: So whaddaya got left on them shields? I said forty percent but boss man says you're down to twenty-eight, and he is not wrong about these things.
Toxic: Good news, buddy. Shroud says he just wants the Astral Pulse. Which, we all know, isn't really yours anyway.
Mecha Man (Robert): System check. Calculate the damage per second hitting shields, then tell me how many seconds I need to divert Astral Pulse energy to rocket boosters.
Mecha Man System: 12.89 seconds of damage before critical.
Toxic: Oh, hey. Boss man says if you're planning on diverting puss pow-- sorry, pulse power to the boosters, it won't work.
Toxic: This is a limited time offer dude, what's up? You were so fucking talkative earlier?
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "Bullshit."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Bullshit.
> Toxic: Hey, mathblaster. I don't give a fuck, okay?
> Option 2 - "You're bluffing."
> Mecha Man (Robert): You're bluffing.
> Option 3 - "[Ignore Him]"
Toxic: I'm just the messenger here. He says you're not calculating that shit stuck to your leg... dumbass.
Mecha Man (Robert): Fuck it.
Toxic: Aye. Great. All going to plan. Now get outta there, babe.
Mecha Man (Robert): COME ON!
Mecha Man (Robert): WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! FUCK YEAH!
Mecha Man (Robert): Status?
Mecha Man System: Hull status: Stable.
Mecha Man System: Foreign Device Detected.
Mecha Man System: Warning. Warning. Warning. Warning.

===== SCENE 4: EXTERIOR – LOS ANGELES STREET – NEWS STAND – DAY =====
[Four months later. Robert is watching a news broadcast on a television in a store window. The news anchor recaps the history of Mecha Man while the screen shows B-roll footage of the suit.]
News Anchor: It was just over four months ago that images like this were recorded across the Southland. Videos flooded social media and our newsroom showing what many thought to be...
News Anchor: The death of Mecha Man... again.
News Anchor: For nearly fifty years a Mecha Man has protected Los Angeles. Built by an ordinary civilian with no superpowers.
News Anchor: This first suit was dubbed by some fans as Mecha Man 'Prime.' Three generations of pilot, their identities kept secret, have given everything to protect this community...
News Anchor: ...including their lives. After the tragic passing of Prime, the next Mecha Man, known as 'Astral', teamed up with the star studded superhero group known as the Brave Brigade, leading to an unprecedented period of peace in the Southland.
News Anchor: After years of loyal service, tragedy struck again when--
News Anchor: --Shroud, a former Brave Brigade member turned villain, killed the pilot of Mecha Man in cold blood.
News Anchor: But yet again, as hope was lost, a third generation of Mecha Man emerged.
News Anchor: A Mecha Man for the modern era.
News Anchor: --a bulwark against organized crime in the greater Los Angeles area, until, today.
News Anchor: Earlier today, Mecha Man broke his silence and addressed the media...
[The broadcast cuts to footage of MECHA MAN (ROBERT) at a press conference.]

===== SCENE 5: INTERIOR – PRESS CONFERENCE – EARLIER =====
[Robert stands behind a podium. A sea of reporters is in front of him.]
Mecha Man (Robert): There's been a lot of speculation about my health and the state of the Mecha Man suit, and I'm here to put that speculation to rest. The suit has been damaged beyond my ability to repair, so I will be stepping back from superhero work... effective immediately.
Reporter A: Does this mean you're finished?
Reporter B: Can you repair your suit?
Reporter C: What's next for Mecha Man?
Reporter D: Does this mean your career is over?
Reporter E: How badly were you hurt?
Mecha Man (Robert): One at a time please.
ASHLEY RHINESS (San Pedro Daily): Ashley Rhiness. San Pedro Daily. Do you have anything to say to your fans? The public outpouring. The vigils. A lot of them were worried you wouldn't wake up.
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "I did my best."
> Mecha Man (Robert): I suppose I want them to know I did my best. I worked as long as I could as hard as I could and... that's all anyone can do.
> Option 2 - "It was all for you."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Everything I've done, every sacrifice me and my family have made has been for the people of Los Angeles...
> Option 3 - "Thank you."
> Mecha Man (Robert): I just want to say thank you for the support... I hope to be worthy of it.
Mecha Man (Robert): Next question.
CHRIS STRATTON (Torrance Tribune): Chris Stratton. Torrance Tribune. Does this mean you're retiring as Mecha Man? Word on the street is you're donezo.
Mecha Man (Robert): Are you a hundred years old? Why're you talking like that?
Chris Stratton: Answer the question, buddy boy. Are you retiring?
Chris Stratton: My readers need the skinny and I aim to deliver. Let's get it on the record.
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "Pretty much."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Well, I don't have a suit, and I don't have any superpowers so, yeah, short of a miracle... pretty much.
> Chris Stratton: Is pretty much the same as definitively?
> Mecha Man (Robert): Pretty much is the same as pretty much, buddy boy.
> Option 2 - "Not yet."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Look, I'm not retiring. Not yet at least.
> Chris Stratton: Any idea what you can do without the Mecha Man suit?
> Mecha Man (Robert): Not yet.
> Option 3 - "No comment."
> Mecha Man (Robert): I'm not looking to comment on that just yet. That's the only skinny I can give you.
Mecha Man (Robert): Alright, just one more, please. I gotta get back to uh, just, just one more. Preferably someone from this century.
CHARLES KINGSLEY (South Bay Signal): Charles Kingsley. South Bay Signal. So, Shroud kills your father, goes to jail fifteen years, breaks out and immediately dupes you into a trap where he destroys the Mecha Man suit and puts you in a coma for months...
Mecha Man (Robert): I didn't hear a question in there.
Charles Kingsley: Two parter. First, why didn't Shroud kill you? You haven't been conscious for months. It'd be easy money taking you out.
Mecha Man (Robert): Ok, Shroud wanted the Astral Pulse and Mecha Man gone. He got both. I'm not sure I mattered much.
Charles Kingsley: Right. You're unimportant. Which leads me to my next question. Most heroes avenge their family. You, did the opposite. You killed their legacy. How disappointed would your dad be if he were here right now?
Charles Kingsley: Your father, your grandfather, they must be rolling over in their graves.
---
===== SCENE 5A: RESPONDING TO KINGSLEY (CHOICE) =====
The player must choose how Robert reacts to the reporter's insult.
> Option 1 - "[Answer]"
> Mecha Man (Robert): I think he'd be proud... cause I'm alive. Which, as you so sensitively pointed out, he isn't. I think he knows that I sacrificed everything... and that I did my best. Being Mecha Man... protecting my community... was the greatest honor I'll ever have... now I have to live knowing that. Thank you for coming.
> Option 2 - "[Attack]"
> Option 3 - "[Leave]"
---
===== SCENE 5B: AFTER THE PRESS CONFERENCE (NEWS REACTIONS) =====
[The news broadcast transitions to a segment criticizing Robert's decision.]
News Anchor: Up next...
Charles Kingsley (on TV): Do I want to sue? Of course? But there's two issues there. He clearly has nothing left and... he was wearing a mask, so...
On Scene Reporter: How do you feel about the crowd seemingly encouraging him?
Charles Kingsley: It did explain why after the first three or four minutes no one was stepping in, yes. I was disappointed with the chanting.
[The broadcast switches to a "Person on the Street" interview.]
News Anchor: Up next, is Mecha Man a Mecha quitter?
Person On The Street: Yeah, I mean, it seems like it'd be better if he died than be a mecha coward, you know? What kind of example is he setting?
News Anchor: Stay tuned to find out.
---
===== SCENE 6: INTERIOR/EXTERIOR – ELECTRONICS STORE – LATER =====
[The TV screen shatters as five thieves in colorful ski masks burst through the window.]
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "That's pretty disrespectful."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Hey. Assholes.
> Mecha Man (Robert): Yeah. All you assholes. Pretty disrespectful for you to be doing that in front of me.
> Option 2 - "I was watching that."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Hey. Assholes.
> Mecha Man (Robert): Yeah. All you assholes. I was fucking watching that.
> Option 3 - "Put it down and leave."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Hey. Assholes.
> Mecha Man (Robert): Yeah. Just put the tv's back and you can leave. I won't say anything to the cops and this doesn't need to escalate.
Red Ski: Aye! Who're you callin' assholes, asshole?!
Orange Ski: I'll handle this idiot. Keep loading. We're out of here in thirty, and who the fuck are you?
Red Ski: Yeah, you. Go go fuckin hobo ranger. Who the fuck are you?
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "I'm Mecha Man."
> Mecha Man (Robert): I'm Mecha Man.
> Green Ski: You're not Mecha Man. That's Mecha Man.
> Mecha Man (Robert): I'm Mecha Man, dipshit, okay? That's my suit.
> Orange Ski: Well, you're gonna be wishin' you had it right now.
> Option 2 - "Honestly, not sure anymore."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Honestly... I'm not sure anymore.
> Orange Ski: Right. Well, that feels heavy, but I don't know you so I don't give a fuck.
> Option 3 - "Someone with nothing to lose."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Right now, I'm someone with nothing to lose... which is probably bad news for you.
> Orange Ski: Well, what nothing you have, you're about to lose again.
Mecha Man (Robert): Whatever the case, I'm enough to deal with a pack of fuckin' skittles idiots like you.
Orange Ski: Goddamnit...
Orange Ski: Look, you're hurt, you're not thinkin' straight. You don't wanna fight someone who knows which hand every punch is coming from--
[SOUND: Punch landing. Robert punches Orange Ski.]
Mecha Man (Robert): FUCK--
Red Ski: FUCK!
[SOUND: More punches, then the sound of a body flying through the air.]
[SOUND: Glass shattering. Someone has been thrown through a window.]
Green Ski: What the-
Blonde Blazer: That guy I threw... he landed on the roof, right?
Green Ski: All good!
Blonde Blazer: Phew. Hi. I'm Blonde Blazer. I work over at Superhero Dispatch Network.
Mecha Man (Robert): Hey. Hi. Yeah. I know who you are. You're, like, famous.
Blonde Blazer: Oh. Uh, I don't know about that. I'm just a corporate, hero for hire. You're the real deal. You're the famous one.
Mecha Man (Robert): Right... I don't think infamous is the same as famous, but--
[SOUND: Robert's sleeve is pulled.]
Blonde Blazer: Oh, God. Your arm.
Mecha Man (Robert): Ah, fuck!
[SOUND: Robert's bone cracks as his shoulder is relocated.]
Mecha Man (Robert): Hmm? Oh. Yeah. That's gross.
Blonde Blazer: You look like some kinda mime DJ. Let me see it. I'll help you.
Blonde Blazer: It usually dislocates the other way...
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "I'd prefer a professional."
> Mecha Man (Robert): No offense, but I'd prefer a medical professional to do i--uuuooowwwohhkay... Ohhh. That's uh, That's okay.
> Option 2 - "I can do it myself."
> Mecha Man (Robert): It's fine. No, no it's fine don't worry. I can do it myse--fuck!
> Mecha Man (Robert): Yeah, that's oh. Okay. Yeah, thank you.
> Option 3 - "Have you done this before?"
> Mecha Man (Robert): Okay, but have you done this before? Cause maybe-- Owwwww, wow-kay. Wow, that's, that's okay. Thank you.
Blonde Blazer: One of them is on that roof.
Blonde Blazer: You look like you could use a drink.
Mecha Man (Robert): What makes you say that?
---
===== SCENE 7: INTERIOR – BAR – LATER =====
[The scene cuts to a bar. Robert is now dressed in civilian clothes. He is sitting at a table with Blonde Blazer.]
Blonde Blazer: Oh shit. They were all skittles colors. I didn't even realize it.
Mecha Man (Robert): Yeah, well you know what they can taste the rainbow in jail.
Blonde Blazer: Wh-what do you mean? Like different colored dicks?
Blonde Blazer: Shit. Sorry. Sorry.
Mecha Man (Robert): I actually didn't know what I meant, but you know what it should've been that.
Blonde Blazer: I'm a little buzzed. I don't really make jokes like that. I think Visi's rubbing off on me.
Mecha Man (Robert): Who?
Blonde Blazer: Uhh someone I work with, it's, yeah...
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "Rough day?"
> Mecha Man (Robert): I can't tell which one of us had the rough day...
> Blonde Blazer: Hmm? Oh. No. I had a great day. Well, that's not totally true.
> Blonde Blazer: Oh, you're joking. Sorry.
> Option 2 - "Impressive."
> Mecha Man (Robert): That was... impressive.
> Blonde Blazer: Hmm? Oh. Mmm.
> Option 3 - "That feels like a challenge."
> Mecha Man (Robert): That feels like a challenge...
> Blonde Blazer: Oh. No.
Blonde Blazer: It's fine. Don't worry about keeping up. Something to do with the powers... it, it takes a lot for me to feel anything.
Mecha Man (Robert): What a sad sentence.
Blonde Blazer: Hey, you should give yourself more credit. To do what you did, for as long as you did... especially without superpowers.
Mecha Man (Robert): Not true. Whaddaya call this?
Blonde Blazer: I can fix that one for you too.
Mecha Man (Robert): No thanks. I like this one.
Blonde Blazer: Thank you. So how'd you afford all that? You must've spent hundreds of thousands--
Mecha Man (Robert): Millions.
Mecha Man (Robert): So you'll understand when the check comes.
Blonde Blazer: You're serious. Millions.
Mecha Man (Robert): Yeah, I basically burned through my entire inheritance keeping it going. Last couple years have just been duct tape and sheer determination.
Blonde Blazer: Wh- why did you do it?
Mecha Man (Robert): Do what?
Blonde Blazer: Sacrifice everything to be a superhero to the point of financial...
Mecha Man (Robert): Ruin?
Blonde Blazer: I was gonna say hardship, but ruin was the first word that came to mind, yeah.
Blonde Blazer: You must be completely broke at this point.
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "I like helping people."
> Mecha Man (Robert): I don't know, I guess I just like helping people.
> Option 2 - "Only thing I'm good at."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Honestly, it's the only thing I'm good at.
> Blonde Blazer: Now, that's a sad sentence. Come on, that can't be true.
> Blonde Blazer: I guess it could be true.
> Option 3 - "I don't know..."
> Mecha Man (Robert): In retrospect... I don't really know.
> Blonde Blazer: Now, that's a sad sentence.
> Mecha Man (Robert): Yes it is.
Blonde Blazer: So are you drunk yet, or what?
Mecha Man (Robert): Eh, yeah, I should probably be switching to water.
Blonde Blazer: Good, cause I was hoping after some drinks to loosen you up, I could learn a little more about you and uh... if all that went well... present you with a proposition.
Mecha Man (Robert): A proposition?
Blonde Blazer: Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out if this is a fit or not. You know? Then it's just a matter of picking the right moment.
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "Sounds intriguing."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Well, I have to say Blazer, that does sound intriguing.
> Option 2 - "A bar proposition?"
> Mecha Man (Robert): Well, propositions late at night in a bar can go any number of ways.
> Option 3 - "Hopefully nothing scandalous."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Okay... hopefully it's nothing too... scandalous.
Blonde Blazer: That's actually--
[SOUND: A glass shatters.]
Blonde Blazer: Not water.
Mecha Man (Robert): This is like pure alcohol.
Blonde Blazer: It's not like alcohol, it is alcohol. I know because you spit it directly into my open mouth.
Blonde Blazer: That's water. That. See? How it has ice in it?
Mecha Man (Robert): You drink hard liquor from a pint glass?
Blonde Blazer: Actually, I usually just drink it straight from the bottle but...
Blonde Blazer: I thought that would be embarrassing.
Blonde Blazer: I'm gonna go clean up.
Mecha Man (Robert): I'm so sorry.
Blonde Blazer: No it's fine. I will be right back.
---
===== SCENE 7A: FLAMBAE CONFRONTS ROBERT =====
[While Blonde Blazer is gone, Robert is confronted by FLAMBAE, a villain he previously defeated.]
Flambae: Hey! Bitch!
Flambae: Hey! I'm talkin' to you bitch!
Mecha Man (Robert): Alright, just so you know, I only turned around cause someone yelled, not because I'm a bitch or anything.
Flambae: Don't you watch the news? This is a superhero bar.
Mecha Man (Robert): Oh, wow, are you a superhero? That's so cool. Is this your power? You're like, tell people obvious shit guy?
Flambae: You're really gonna act like you don't remember me?
Mecha Man (Robert): Wait, it's coming back to me... Hold on, yeah, it's coming back to me...
Mecha Man (Robert): Oh, wait, wait, oh I know it...
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "Mr. Wet Ponytail"
> Mecha Man (Robert): You know what, you are Mr. Wet Ponytail. Your superpower is in, obviously, your ponytail, which, aside from being disgusting, has the ability to never not be wet. In battle you whip it around and anyone it touches fuckin' kills themself.
> Option 2 - "Sunglasses at Night Guy"
> Mecha Man (Robert): You are Sunglasses, Indoors, at Night Guy. Your superpower is that you're able to let everyone know in the room that you're a douchebag cause you should literally never do that unless you're at the final table of the World Series of Poker-- but even then, if you win, you're still a fuckin' loser.
> Option 3 - "Dr. Don't Do Shit"
> Mecha Man (Robert): You are Dr. Don't Do Shit. Your deal is you walk up to people, look threatening, talk a big game then don't do shit about it. Also, you're not a real doctor cause you're a fuckin' idiot.
Coupé: Haa-- shit... that is-- damn.
Flambae: You good?
Coupé: Sorry. I choked on my spit.
Flambae: No, Mecha Bitch. I control the fire--
Mecha Man (Robert): The fire?
Flambae: AND the flame... and my skin does not burn...
Flambae: I am Flambae, and you--
Mecha Man (Robert): Wait, oh shit I do remember you. You're that shitty villain I busted up.
Flambae: Not anymore, Mecha Dick. As I literally just said, I am Flambae, a real superhero. And you are not Mecha Man anymore. So you need to get the fuck out of here.
Flambae: Now, we can do this the easy way...
---
===== SCENE 7B: FIGHTING FLAMBAE (CHOICE) =====
The player must choose what to throw at Flambae.
> Option 1 - "[Water]"
> Mecha Man (Robert): There. Easy way.
> Mecha Man (Robert): You're gonna hit me now, right?
> Flambae: I've been waiting a long time for this.
> Punch Up: Holy shite!
> Flambae: What song is that?
> Coupé: Your mouth, it's whistling. Come on we should get you to a hospital.
> Punch Up: No, Coop, fuckin' guy needs a dentist. I got it on ice. Should be able to reattach it.
> Mecha Man (Robert): Teeth don't work that way, you're thinking of fingers and dicks-- you, ya know what? Give it a shot.
> Option 2 - "[Alcohol]"
> Mecha Man (Robert): Sorry, which way was that?
> Waitress: Hey!
> Coupé: No, Punch-up, you are literally fanning the flames right now.
> Punch Up: Shit. Yeah, you're right. Anybody got a rug?
> Flambae: Fuck!
> Punch Up: You gotta drop and roll lad!
> Mecha Man (Robert): Thought he doesn't burn?
> Coupé: Some people become scared before they even know they're hurt... like babies.
[The bouncer, DOPPLE, intercedes.]
Dopple: HEY! Mecha Dick. Get the fuck out of here.
Mecha Man (Robert): I get it. Can you just tell Blazer I'm outside?
Dopple: OUT!
Mecha Man (Robert): Relax. I'm leaving.
---
===== SCENE 8: EXTERIOR – BILLBOARD – LATER =====
[Robert and Blonde Blazer are sitting on the edge of a billboard platform, high above the city.]
Blonde Blazer: Hey, I couldn't find you.
Mecha Man (Robert): Uh, it's cool, I was just admiring the art on this dumpster. Can't tell why anyone would put those words together. Why're you holding drinks?
Blonde Blazer: Nightcap?
Mecha Man (Robert): You're trouble.
Blonde Blazer: Actually, according to the bartender that's exactly what you are. What happened in there?
Blonde Blazer: I walk out and the Bartender's pissed. The whole energy is awkward...
Robert's explanation options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "Extinguished a situation."
> Mecha Man (Robert): A little flare up with some guy. But it, you know, extinguished pretty quick.
> Blonde Blazer: A flare up?
> Option 2 - "Guy fell down."
> Mecha Man (Robert): It's crazy. This guy, he just fell down.
> Blonde Blazer: A guy fell down.
> Option 3 - "Made a little mess."
> Mecha Man (Robert): Oh, my glass slipped and I made a little mess.
> Blonde Blazer: Just a little mess?
> Option 4 - "Got fired up."
> Mecha Man (Robert): I got a little fired up with a guy, but he ran off before anything happened so...
> Blonde Blazer: You got fired up?
Mecha Man (Robert): Yeah. Does that, not sound convincing enough?
Blonde Blazer: Hold these. I know a place.
Mecha Man (Robert): You stong...
Blonde Blazer: It's a little out there. Easier if we fly.
---
===== SCENE 8A: ON THE BILLBOARD =====
[They arrive at the billboard.]
Mecha Man (Robert): I actually thought you were taking us to sit on it.
Blonde Blazer: Hmm? Oh yeah, that woulda been cool.
Blonde Blazer: But, no, yeah, this, this is better cause you can see it... and it, it looks like there's a couple up there already so.
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "Thanks for helping me."
> Mecha Man (Robert): I really appreciate you coming to my rescue back there. I still think I could've handled it but-- all I'm trying to say is... Thanks. I should've just said that... But, yep I'm still talking.
> Option 2 - "Sorry about the spit thing."
> Mecha Man (Robert): I know I shouldn't even bring it up cause it was mortifying for the both of us, but I am seriously sorry about the whole spitting thing.
> Blonde Blazer: Yeah, that's usually like a second date kinda thing with me.
> Blonde Blazer: I'm joking. I'm joking. This is, this is not a date.
> Mecha Man (Robert): No, totally. I was thinking about something else. But yeah. Thanks. Thank you. Again.
> Option 3 - "I really needed this."
> Mecha Man (Robert): All this has been pretty... overwhelming, you know. I don't get out, often and... I think I really needed this. So, thank you... for bringing me out. I had a really great time.
Blonde Blazer: Don't you worry about it, Robert Robertson.
Robert: How do you know my name?
Blonde Blazer: Whoops.
Robert: What's going on?
Blonde Blazer: Okay I'll tell you, but only after you tell me how you ended up with a name like that.
Robert: Oh you mean a name like Robert Robertson the Third?
Blonde Blazer: The Third?! Three times this happened?
Robert: There was grandpa Bobby, then my dad, who I called dad, but everyone else called Robbie, and then me, Robert. Cause I wanted to be taken seriously.
Blonde Blazer: Mmm, a family tradition.
Robert: In more ways than one. Gramps was the first Mecha Man, he died in the suit before I was born. Dad was killed fighting Shroud. That's when I took over... there was a little inheritance and the life insurance money.
Blonde Blazer: I'm so sorry. I didn't realize...
Robert: Just your run of the mill, sad superhero origin story. The family tradition, if there is one, is dying in that suit. Which I guess I don't have to worry about anymore.
Robert: What is it?
Blonde Blazer: I'm not quite drunk enough to share my origin story just yet... but, remind me to tell you someday.
Robert: Definitely.
Blonde Blazer: We can work with this.
---
===== SCENE 8B: THE KISS (CHOICE) =====
The player must choose how to handle the intimate moment.
> Option 1 - "[Kiss Her]"
> Blonde Blazer: No. This... I'm, I'm... sorry if I gave the wrong impression...
> Robert: Oh no.
> Blonde Blazer: It's my fault.
> Robert: I'm so sorry. I totally misread that--
> Blonde Blazer: You didn't-- I mean, you did, but I definitely...
> Option 2 - "[Let the Moment Pass]"
> Blonde Blazer: Sorry, I'm actually here with... a purpose and...
Blonde Blazer: The way I went about things tonight... I'm sorry. It was all a little loose. A little unprofessional.
Robert: Unprofessional? I'm not sure that that applies to this but--
Blonde Blazer: I'm actually here on official business... how I know your name, the proposition I mentioned right before you spit in my mouth--
Robert: Still mortified about that.
Blonde Blazer: It's fine. Do you remember a superhero named Track Star?
Robert: Remember? Of course. He's like family... that I haven't talked to in a while. What about him?
Blonde Blazer: I work with him at SDN. He recommended you. Mentioned that he worked with your father?
Robert: Yeah, he was the youngest member of the Brave Brigade so, he was kind of my babysitter for a while. How's he doing?
Blonde Blazer: He's doing great. He's, he's why I'm here. Robert, I would like to make you an offer. In exchange for dispatching and mentoring some of our rookie heroes, SDN can make you Mecha Man again.
Blonde Blazer: But this time with all the resources that a company as big as ours has at their disposal. No more paying out of pocket for repairs. Support staff, the whole shebang.
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "This is an interview?"
> Robert: So this was, like, some sort of interview?
> Blonde Blazer: I was worried that you might be...
> Robert: Crazy?
> Blonde Blazer: Unstable. Damaged. Unfit. Batshit. Dipshit. I don't know. Whatever you wanna call it.
> Option 2 - "Not exactly professional."
> Robert: Yeah you're right... this was a pretty unprofessional way to recruit someone into your corporate bullshit.
> Blonde Blazer: I know. I'm sorry.
> Option 3 - "My suit was destroyed."
> Robert: My suit was totally destroyed...
> Blonde Blazer: I saw the report. Studied the footage. It's not totally destroyed. Just mostly.
Blonde Blazer: It's a big investment. It'll take considerable time and money to get the suit repaired and the missing pieces replaced. Plenty of time to learn how to dispatch and level up some of the heroes on our roster.
Blonde Blazer: Your experience, your work ethic, your perspective, it's all invaluable. Share it, Robert. You have a lot left to give.
Robert's dialogue options (determinant):
> Option 1 - "When do I start?"
> Robert: So, when do we get started?
> Robert: Wait, so you want me dispatching? What's that even mean?
> Option 2 - "Dispatch heroes?"
> Robert: Wait. You want me to sit in an office and dispatch heroes?
> Blonde Blazer: That's the idea. But just until we get your suit put back together.
> Robert: What's dispatching even mean?
> Option 3 - "What if I say no?"
> Robert: And what if I say no?
> Blonde Blazer: Then I'll hate you forever... and I'll push you off this billboard.
> Robert: Wow...
> Blonde Blazer: Yeah.
> Robert: And no one would suspect a thing.
> Blonde Blazer: Nope. Not a one.
> Robert: Wait, so you want me dispatching? What's that even mean?
Blonde Blazer: Oh. Right. I was supposed to test you at the bar. Here.
Robert: Eh, drunk people shouldn't be throwing things at drunk people.
Blonde Blazer: Noted.
Robert: Am I waiting or are you waiting? What's going on?
Blonde Blazer: It was supposed to open up when I threw it to you-- okay there!
Blonde Blazer: Pop it on. This is part of the assessment. And don't move too much in there. You're sitting on the edge of a billboard.
---
===== SCENE 8C: THE DISPATCH ASSESSMENT (CHOICE) =====
The player must choose how Robert performs on the assessment.
> Option 1 - "Great at this"
> Robert: Well, it looks like I'm great at this so, that's gonna be bad for your negotiating position. Expect a lengthy...
> Option 2 - "Felt pretty natural"
> Robert: That felt pretty natural to me... in that it's natural for me to end up mid tier. That said, for a first time it feels pretty...
> Option 3 - "Didn't go so great"
> Robert: Okay, so that didn't go so great... but I really feel like I got a sense of where I need to improve to get to where...
Blonde Blazer: Did I drool on you?
Robert: Uh, I don't think so.
Blonde Blazer: Well, you see why we thought of-- well, why Track Star thought of you.
Robert: It makes sense, yeah.
Blonde Blazer: Meet me at the SDN offices tomorrow.
Blonde Blazer: I'm not done saving you yet.
Robert: Uh, is there a ladder? Or...
---
===== SCENE 9: INTERIOR – ROBERT'S APARTMENT – NIGHT =====
[Robert arrives home, carrying a bag of groceries. BEEF greets him at the door, wagging his tail.]
Robert: Sorry I'm late.
[Robert gives Beef a treat.]
Robert: I think things are gonna be alright, bud.
Robert: Were you a good boy?
[Robert opens the door. BLONDE BLAZER is waiting for him outside.]
Blonde Blazer: The folks at SDN are the best in the business and we're striving to create a safer, stronger city every single day.
Robert: I met a nice lady. She wants to help us out.
---
===== SCENE 10: DISPATCH TUTORIAL (GAMEPLAY) =====
Setting: The Superhero Dispatch Network offices. Robert is at his new desk, wearing a headset.
Phenomaman: Greetings and welcome to this training simulation! We may be superheroes, but we're nothing without SDN's real hero: the Dispatcher!
Phenomaman: Our sky eye. An ear on the ground. The deciding vote.
Phenomaman: So, Dispatcher, where do we start?
Robert: Oh. Shit that's me. Right.
---
===== SCENE 10A: FIRST CALL - TRAINING SIMULATION =====
Phenomaman: Well well, it appears we've got our first call from a subscriber!
Phenomaman: You'll receive requirements to help you determine which heroes to send!
Phenomaman: Such an array of brave heroes to choose from! How could you possibly pick just one!
Phenomaman: This graph will show you what a hero does well and not so well.
Phenomaman: A hero with a knack for vigor and combat looks right for the job!
Phenomaman: That sounds like me, Phenomaman!
Phenomaman: Now that at least one hero is being dispatched, it's time to get to work!
Phenomaman: I will now return to SDN!
Phenomaman: Let's see how well I did after responding to that caller's well... call!
Phenomaman: On SDN's state of the art graph, we can see an analysis of what skills the call required.
Phenomaman: The more that my skills align with the needs of the job, the more likely I am to succeed!
Phenomaman: There's no such thing as a "perfect fit". Use your intellect and your roster to your advantage.
Phenomaman: When a hero returns to SDN, they'll need some much needed R&R. That stands for rest and relaxation.
Phenomaman: Don't forget to review your hero's performance. They won't be sent out again until you do.
---
===== SCENE 10B: HERO INTERRUPTIONS =====
Phenomaman: One of your heroes needs you!
Phenomaman: As their leader, your heroes will look to you. Make choices and follow where they lead.
Phenomaman: These choices need the right skill. Remember each of your hero's strengths and weaknesses.
Phenomaman: Sometimes, a hero can use their talents to tip the scales. They are superheroes, after all!
Phenomaman: The way you resolve a call may lead to new calls like this one.
Phenomaman: SDN values work-life balance. When the bell rings, your shift will end very soon.
---
===== SCENE 10C: DISPATCH SHIFT (GAMEPLAY SEQUENCE) =====
[The first dispatch shift begins. Robert must assign heroes to various calls, each with different stat requirements.]
Phenomaman: I am on the way!
Phenomaman: A wise choice.
Phenomaman: A sound approach.
[SOUND: Phone ringing.]
Officer: A convoy of Diablo's goons are harrying the Highway Patrol.
Phenomaman: As if traffic in this city was not bad enough.
Brickhouse: Speaking of traffic and going places, does SDN offer paid time off to take vacations?
Phenomaman: Of course. PTO accrues at a regular rate over time. Use it however you like as long as you discuss your schedule with your manager well in advance.
Robert: What the fuck is a PTO?
[Another call comes in.]
Civilian: I saw some scary, suspicious men last night leaving the old movie theater...
Phenomaman: We've located the headquarters of a notorious organized crime syndicate — the Devils of Los Angeles.
Phenomaman: Organized criminals, often led by figurehead super villains, are the scourge of Southern California. We work tirelessly to root them out.
[Another call comes in.]
Curator: The museum is doing an exhibit on local superheroes and need a guest speaker!
[Another call comes in.]
Nurse: The diabolical super villain El Diablo is attacking Los Angeles General!
Phenomaman: Oh no. It's one of my arch nemesises: El Diablo. That means "The Diablo" in Spanish.
Brainbook: He must have been using the convoy ambush as a distraction.
Phenomaman: And to attack helpless hospital people. That craven bastard.
Equilibrium: Speaking of hospitals, did you know SDN offers a robust benefits package for all full time employees?
Phenomaman: That's phenomenal!
[The heroes return from the hospital call.]
Phenomaman: El Diablo's threat has been el... iminated. The children are safe and sound.
Pom Pom: Got all the kids and staff out safely! Looks like the cops took care of the goons.
Brickhouse: The walls didn't stand a chance.
Sweetalker: I run an ex-goon support group every Sunday. Gave them my card as the cops took them away.
Equilibrium: Rescuing civilians and taking down villains? Just another Tuesday for me.
Brainbook: I led the goons into a trap while guiding the civilians to safety. The cops'll take it from here.
[Another call comes in.]
Officer: El Diablo's goons are running scared. We're right on the heels of his sidekick, El Diablito!
[Another call comes in.]
Security: We've got a potential villain hideout on the college campus.
Pom Pom: Sometimes the solution is brains, not brawn. SDN's diverse array of heroes can solve any problem.
[Another call comes in.]
Civilian: There's a giant monster attacking downtown! Save us, SDN!
[Another call comes in.]
Civilian: Oh no. Help us. We are being held hostage. Send help. Please.
Pom Pom: You can find suggestions on how to handle hostage situations on page two hundred and thirty four of SDN's Guide to Dispatching.
[Another call comes in.]
Civilian: I need help... gettin' to my... doctor's appointment.
Phenomaman: SDN solves all problems, big and small. We never ignore the people of the city, particularly the elderly.
Pom Pom: Speaking of retirement, quick question, Phenomaman — does SDN offer 401K matching?
Phenomaman: Yes, but there are limitations. Your HR representative will have all the details.
---
===== SCENE 10D: END OF SHIFT =====
Phenomaman: Our shift is done now. It is time for lunch.
Sweetalker: We couldn't have done it without you, Dispatcher.
Phenomaman: Too true.
Brickhouse: I'm going to enhance my break time with some of the snack offerings in our break room vending machines.
Phenomaman: Great idea. Thank you again, Dispatcher. I hope to be seeing a lot more of you. Goodbye for now, and don't forget to be Phenomamal.
Robert: Did he just say "phenomamal?"
---
===== SCENE 10E: END OF EPISODE =====
Phenomaman: A perfect dispatch! You are a natural!
Phenomaman: On to the next.
Phenomaman: It is quite alright, you're still learning.
Robert: Time to finish this.
Robert: Alright. Next one...
Robert: Just one more...
Robert: Alright, got it.
[FADE TO BLACK.]

NOTABLE LINES
Robert: Obviously, I love him. He's my Dad.
Soothing Voice: Hmm...
Robert: What does that hmm mean? Just say what you wanna say?
Soothing Voice: It's just, when you add obviously it feels a little less obvious. So, I'll ask again... how do you really feel about your father?
Soothing Voice: It's as if, maybe, it's a little more complicated than you feel comfortable admitting. Which is completely understandable.
Soothing Goon: I hope Shroud kills you just like he killed your father. I hope he fuckin' spanks your little daddy issue bitch ass to death. You hear me? Ugh!
Robert: Windy up here tonight huh? No telling where you'll land.
Soothing Goon: HELP! HEEEEL-mmmphh
Robert: Hey, hey I will pull you up if you quiet the fuck down.
Soothing Goon: MMMMMMMHHHHMPPHHH! MMMMRRRRAAA-HEEEEL-mmmphh.
Soothing Goon: All this buildup. Face to face with your father's killer and you come in here with that lame shit?
Soothing Goon: It turns out right after Shroud shot him in the chest, your dad pissed his pants. Betcha didn't know that, huh?
Soothing Goon: So, after that bullet tore through his insides, he still had enough time to know how absolutely fucked he was, and just pissed himself like a little bitch. It was like, so much piss. Cause your dad was wearing shorts so it just--
Toxic: Shroud's augments are pretty good when normies like you use 'em, but when you put 'em on someone who already has powers... fuckin' chef's kiss.
Blonde Blazer: We can work with this.
Right.
